“After touring Italy for 14 days and staying at several big city hotels, this was a nice break in the countryside for a couple of nights of downtime. We arrived a bit late, and I was taken back when I thought the check in desk was closed, but within a moment Francesco emerged and welcomed us. This is truly a family run boutique hotel between Francesco, and his son Nicola. Not knowing our way around Lucera, and wanting to relax after checking in (which was basically Francesco walking us up to the room , and showing us around - no paperwork, no forms to sign, no request for credit card) Francesco offered to make us dinner, which was excellent. Lucera was an unexpected gem also, as we strolled around the old part of the walled city and ancient Roman ruins. Francesco spoke English a bit better than my Italian (which is not too good), so we had fun trying to discuss places to eat in Lucera, but he and Nicola are very gracious and patient hosts and they provided some great recommendations and we had fun managing through our translation challenge. I somehow think that Francesco spoke much more English than he let on, and that he was toying with my Italian which i had studied for the last 3 months prior to the trip, trying to make me feel as though i had conquered the vocabulary. All in all, very nice room, and very accomodating with very personalized service.”
